Affiliate Disclosure

The short version

Some links on Solo1099 are affiliate links. If you click one and sign up for a paid plan with the partner, Solo1099 earns a commission. You pay nothing extra. We only recommend partners we would (or do) use ourselves, and the commission does not influence whether a calculator returns a higher or lower number for you.

Why we use affiliates

The calculators are free to use, hosted on a paid server, and updated each year when the IRS publishes new figures. Affiliate income lets us keep them free and ad-light. The alternative — putting every tool behind a paywall, plastering the site with intrusive ads, or selling user data — would be worse for everyone.

Editorial independence

Concretely, we commit to:

  • We do not rank tools by commission. When we say a particular product is the best for a use case, it is because we believe it is. The commission rates of competing partners are visible to us internally and we intentionally ignore them when writing.
  • We disclose the relationship clearly on every article and calculator that contains affiliate links — usually right next to the recommendation.
  • We never accept payment to bury a negative review or to write a positive one for a product we have not vetted.
  • Calculator math is identical whether or not you ever click an affiliate link. The numbers come from public IRS / SSA data, not from a partner.

Current partners

The partners we currently work with, what they do, and how we earn:

  • TaxAct Self-EmployedTax filing software. Online tax preparation with strong support for Schedule C and Schedule SE. Cheaper than TurboTax for similar filings. (visit via our referral)
  • FreshBooksInvoicing & bookkeeping. Cloud invoicing and expense tracking aimed at sole proprietors. Generates the data you need to fill Schedule C without spreadsheets. (visit via our referral)
  • QuickBooks Self-EmployedBookkeeping & quarterly tax. Tracks 1099 income, separates personal vs business spend, automates mileage, and feeds quarterly estimated tax suggestions. (visit via our referral)
  • BenchBookkeeping service. Real human bookkeepers do your monthly books and produce year-end financials ready for your CPA. Useful when you cross ~$80k revenue. (visit via our referral)
  • MercuryBusiness banking. Free business checking with a clean interface, virtual cards and no monthly fees. Popular with US LLCs and S-Corps. (visit via our referral)
  • NovoBusiness banking. Free small-business banking optimized for sole proprietors and freelancers, with built-in invoicing. (visit via our referral)

If you sign up to any of the above through our links, the partner pays us a referral fee. Exact rates change from time to time and are confidential, but they are typical of the industry — usually a flat amount per converted sign-up or a percentage of the first month/year.

FTC compliance

This page exists to comply with U.S. Federal Trade Commission guidelines for endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255). Even when a specific product mention is not flagged inline, the existence of an affiliate relationship across the site is disclosed by this page and by a footer notice on every page.

Questions or feedback

If you find a recommendation that feels off — outdated, too positive, missing a clear competitor — let us know via the contact page. We update content based on reader feedback as much as based on our own use.
